Water Service Line Inventory: All Lines Are "Non-Lead"
In accordance with EPA’s Lead & Copper Rule Revisions and NYS’s Lead Right-To-Know Act, Brookhaven National Laboratory has created an inventory of all water service lines on-site. The purpose of the inventory is to identify if there are any service lines that require replacement if they pose a risk as a potential source of lead. All service lines at the Lab were categorized as “Non-Lead.”
In all, 326 water service lines were identified between Brookhaven Lab’s potable water distribution mains and the buildings on-site. These service lines are generally used for domestic/drinking water supply, fire sprinkler/standpipe water supply, and industrial system water supply. Piping materials were identified by field inspection in each building, historical records review, and excavation where possible. Each service line was categorized as either “Lead,” “Galvanized Requiring Replacement,” “Non-Lead,” or “Lead Status Unknown” as defined by the regulations. After a thorough review, no lead service lines or galvanized service lines requiring replacement were found.
The document linked on this webpage titled “Water Service Line Inventory” contains a summary of the inventory as well as a tabular listing of the service lines, their materials, sizes, verification methods, and their categorization. The format is presented as per New York State Department of Health requirements. This inventory will be updated when service lines are installed, removed, modified, or if any deviations are identified. Note that this inventory is for underground water service piping only and does not include internal building plumbing. If you have any questions regarding this inventory, contact one of the representatives noted on this webpage.
