ATF Science Planning Workshop 2019

Motivation

The Accelerator Test Facility (ATF) will hold a meeting with experts in the field to identify and refine a set of priority research directions for the facility consistent with ongoing operation and upgrade plans for the capabilities available at BNL Building 820. These capabilities include the ATF’s unique multi-TW-class long-wave IR CO2 laser, a high-brightness 75 MeV electron beam linac, significant near-IR laser capabilities, and combinations of these sources.

This workshop is a follow up on the Scientific Needs Workshop (SNW) held in 2017, which aimed to assess "the scientific needs associated with the mid-IR laser capabilities". ATF is seeking the guidance of the community to reaffirm or modify the conclusions of the SNW 2017, determine additional research priorities that can leverage the electron beam facility as a science driver, and to assess the prioritization of potential upgrades for enabling high-impact scientific outcomes.

A session will be dedicated to the discussion each of the major research capabilities supported by the ATF:

  • Electron Beam Research
  • Long-Wave Infrared Laser Research
  • Combined Electron Beam-Laser Research
