Community Advisory Council

Formed in 1998 to advise the Laboratory Director on selected issues, particularly those involving environment, safety, and health, the Community Advisory Council represents a diverse range of interests and values of individuals and groups interested in or affected by the actions of the Laboratory.

Summer Sundays

Every year, Brookhaven National Laboratory opens its gates to thousands of community members for its annual open house events, called Summer Sundays. Each Sunday focuses on a different facility and field of research. The day is filled with free tours, shows, and hands-on activities related to discoveries happening at Brookhaven.

Speakers Bureau

Brookhaven National Laboratory’s scientists, natural resource specialists, science educators, and community engagement professionals are pleased to share their expertise about a wide variety of topics. Speakers are available free of charge and are selected based on the needs of the public and the availability of the speakers bureau professionals.

Lab employees donate their time and talent to a variety of volunteer organizations that make a positive impact in their communities. Whether it’s participating in blood drives, volunteering at their local Fire Department, building a home through Habitat for Humanity, or helping to clean a beach, Brookhaven’s employees are neighbors helping neighbors.

Science in the Community

Brookhaven Lab is bringing science into the community, making it more accessible to everyone. You don’t have to come to us, we’ll come to you! We’re partnering with local museums and other public venues to give you a chance to talk to scientists from Brookhaven Lab and learn about their research.

Science on Screen creatively pairs screenings of classic, cult, and documentary films with entertaining and compelling introductions and post-screening discussions by notable figures from the world of science, technology, and medicine, particularly showcasing leaders from our strong scientific community here on Long Island.
