Safety Report and Best Practices

The first thing that comes to mind when one refers to an “alarm” may be a clock that alerts you it is time to get up to go to work. At the CFN, we use alarms as backups to more effective engineering controls that remove hazards from workspaces. When an alarm is used as a warning to prevent or control a workplace hazard, it is imperative that we respond appropriately, following the procedures in which we are trained. 

Please take note that we have recently installed a new alarm system within the cleanroom facility. This alarm has a yellow strobe light and sounds when the exhaust fan to the cleanroom has failed. If you will be working in the cleanroom, you will be instructed on the necessary actions to take. Other building occupants do not need to leave the building unless instructed to do so. As usual, when you hear the building’s fire alarm or hazardous gas alarm, you must evacuate the building immediately. 

Safety News and Reminders

• Users who come to work at the CFN must review their Safety Approval Form (SAF) prior to the start of work.  This document details the scope of work, the materials approved for use, and instructions on how to conduct that work safely. Please obtain prior approval from your host for any new chemicals you wish to use or bring on-site that are not listed on the SAF.
• Please join us for the 7th Annual Safety Day to be held in Berkner Hall Lobby (Building 488) on June 17, 2016 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  We will have a great lineup of occupational health and safety resources, hands-on activities, and prizes and giveaways. In addition, vendors will be demonstrating safety equipment use.
