Meet the scientists who make the research at Brookhaven National Laboratory happen! Brookhaven offers the unique opportunity for visitors to hear about its fascinating research and see its scientific machines.

We offer scheduled tours for college, university, professional and adult community groups of ten (10) or more (20 max.) with at least three weeks advance request.

Tours are held on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Please note that we do not offer tours on weekends or holidays. Tours are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are dependent on facility and staff schedules. The Lab is closed to tours on holidays and weekends.

Please fill out a tour request form and give your first, second and third choices for dates and times. Please note that we are unable to accommodate groups of more than 20 people. You will receive an email to confirm or review your request within 3-5 business days.

Scheduled tours are not guaranteed and are subject to change.

Are there other opportunities to interact with Brookhaven National Laboratory?

When are scheduled group tours held?
Our tours are generally held on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Please note that we do not offer tours on weekends or holidays. Tours are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are dependent on facility and staff schedules. The Lab is closed to tours on holidays and weekends. Morning (a.m.) tours usually begin around 9:30 a.m.; afternoon (p.m.) tours usually begin around 1 p.m.
How do I schedule a tour for my college, university, professional or adult community group?
We offer scheduled tours for college, university, professional and adult community groups of ten (10) or more (20 max.) people by request at least three weeks in advance. Please fill out a TOUR REQUEST FORM and give your first, second and third choice dates and times. Please note that we can't accommodate large groups of more than 20 people. You will receive an email to confirm or review your request within 3-5 business days.
How do I schedule a tour for elementary, middle or high school class?
Scheduled group tours of facilities are only available for college, university, professional and adult community groups. Opportunities for elementary, middle or high school groups to engage with Brookhaven lab can be found through the Office of Educational Programs.
How much do tours cost?
Scheduled group tours of BNL are free.
Does Brookhaven Lab provide transportation?
Groups must provide their own transportation to get to Brookhaven Lab and travel around while on site. If you have chartered a private vehicle (e.g., bus, van), please be sure to communicate these expectations with the company and driver(s). The vehicle(s) must remain with the group at all times.
What identification do I need to show at the security booth?
U.S. citizens age 16 and over must bring photo-identification that has been issued by the federal government, such as a passport, or by your state government, such as a current driver’s license or a photo-identification card issued to non-drivers by a state’s motor vehicles department. Please be aware, however, that some states issue driver’s licenses that do not have photographs or that are marked with the statement “cannot be used for identification purposes;” these documents, therefore, cannot be used for photo-identification.
Who can attend the tours?
Our tours are open to adults in any professional, community or college groups.
What other safety and security rules does BNL have?
Please abide by the following regulations for your own health and safety and the Laboratory’s security:
  • Required Dress – Your scheduled tour might visit research facilities. For safety, all visitors must wear flat, closed-toe shoes and long pants. Access will be restricted if proper attire is not worn.
  • Stay with your group and do not wander outside or inside the building by yourself.
