Summary
The invention described how the overexpression of adenosine methylase A (MTA) cDNA from Arabidopsis under the control of the seed-specific Phaseolin promoter enhanced triacylglycerol (TAG) content in the seeds from transgenic plants compared to the seeds from the control plants. The phenotype is attributed to enhanced mRNA stability leading to increased translation. This was noted as a mechanism by which transient co-expression of transcription factor wrinkled I (WRI1) with MTA further enhanced the triacylglycerol (TAG) content by stabilizing the mRNA for WRI1.
