Summary

In this invention BNL researchers plan to develop a field deployable, robust, low-power, low-cost, 100%-efficient solid-state thermal neutron detector with zero sensitivity to gamma-ray background. The proposed detector includes two or more layers of polycrystalline diamond, acting as a scintillator detector of alpha particles, and a thin 6LiF layers, acting as a thermal neutrons converter, and one or two Silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) acting as light detectors.
