In Situ Studies of Sulfur and Polysulfide Redistribution of S-Li Battery during Charge-Discharge Cycling Using Combined X-ray Fluorescence Microscopy and X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy

A novel in situ X-ray fluorescence microscopy combined with X-ray absorption spectroscopy technique has been developed by our group in collaboration with NSLS and NSLSII to investigate Li–S batteries during electrochemical cycling. The evolution of morphology changes of the electrode is monitored in real time through the X-ray fluorescence images, while the changes of the sulfur chemical state are characterized through the X-ray absorption spectroscopy spectra simultaneously.
