Science interns share their stories
The U.S. Department of Energy’s Workforce Development for Teachers and Scientists program helps ensure a sustained pipeline for the nation's science, technology, engineering, and mathematics workforce. As part of this program, the Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship and Community College Internship programs provide opportunities for college students to gain authentic research experiences generally not available in an academic setting.

From U.S. Marine to Chemical Engineer
As an intern in Brookhaven Lab's Chemistry Division, Gerlak researched fundamental reactions of methane and carbon dioxide and the behavior of catalysts that can produce useful chemicals.
Matias Rosner
University of Puerto Rico
Rosner investigated machine learning during his internship at Brookhaven Lab through the U.S. Department of Energy's Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internships (SULI) program.

Mountainview College, Texas
Tippie conducted electrochemical and spectrophotometric studies of polymers during her time at Brookhaven Lab through the U.S. Department of Energy's Community College Internship program.
