General Lab Information

Authorizing/Approving Your Return To On-Site Work

When it’s time for you to transition to regular on-site work, your manager or supervisor will make the initial contact. In many cases, there will be an updated telework agreement agreed upon, or in some cases there will be a remote work agreement. Then your Level 1 Manager (or delegate) will approve the request and you will receive instructions to return via email.

If you’re currently working from home and need to make an incidental return to pick up an item, etc., simply ask your manager. You just need verbal or email approval to go on site.

Return-to-Site Training

A LOT has changed in the last two years. COVID-19 "return-to-site" training must be completed by all staff, users, contractors and guests before they begin work on site. It is very important for everyone to take the required training, which provides an overview of the enhanced safety and health requirements for staff working on the Lab site. Learn more .

Readiness and Reminders

Whether you are brand new to the Lab site or just feeling rusty after months of working from home, this guide can help reacquaint you with how things are done at Brookhaven to ensure safe and productive operations. Consider the reminders below as you plan ahead.

Lab-Issued ID Badge and Vehicle Sticker Requirements

The ID badge issued by the Lab to every employee, guest, user, and intern is one of the most powerful tools we have for keeping people and property secure. The ID badge is to be worn above the waist and should be easily visible. Guests and short-term visitors are issued temporary identification cards that are only good for the day they will be on site.

If you forget your badge or need a new one, you will need to provide current government-issued photo identification (driver’s license, military ID, passport, etc.) to a Police Officer to verify your identity and get site access authorization. After entering the site, you will need to report to the Badging Office (between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.).

Employees and guests who regularly drive their vehicles on site are required to register them with the Badging Office located in Bldg. 400 and obtain a vehicle registration sticker.

If you have questions concerning badge or sticker requirements, contact the Badging Office (Ext. 8711).

On-Site Shuttle Service

The Lab has an on-site shuttle for transporting staff between buildings. Call Ext. 2714 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to schedule a pick-up. There are two off-site shuttles that are available by reservation. For the Ronkonkoma Train Station Shuttle, call Amanda Kuzujian at Ext. 5341. For the Stony Brook Shuttle, contact transportation@bnl.gov . Students and postdocs must be on the approved Brookhaven site-access to board the bus. Learn more
