The Environmental Protection Division (EPD) develops and delivers environmental products and services for all Brookhaven stakeholders, including federal, state and local regulators, the public, the U.S. Department of Energy, and internal customers.
Each year, Brookhaven National Laboratory prepares an annual Site Environmental Report (SER) in accordance with DOE Order 231.1B, Environment, Safety and Health Reporting of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).
The Land Use Institutional Controls (LUIC) provides centralized, integrated access to information pertaining to Brookhaven National Laboratory remediation areas that are subject to land use and institutional controls.
Ten percent of the Brookhaven National Laboratory site is permanently set aside for the purposes of conservation and ecological research.
One of ten national laboratories overseen and primarily funded by the Office of Science of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Brookhaven National Laboratory conducts research in the physical, biomedical, and environmental sciences, as well as in energy technologies and national security. Brookhaven Lab also builds and operates major scientific facilities available to university, industry and government researchers. Brookhaven is operated and managed for DOE's Office of Science by Brookhaven Science Associates, a limited-liability company founded by the Research Foundation for the State University of New York on behalf of Stony Brook University, the largest academic user of Laboratory facilities, and Battelle, a nonprofit applied science and technology organization.
