The acetonitrile spill showed that we must be prepared for spills before they happen. Users involved in wet chemistry procedures must know the properties of the reagents in use and be prepared for spills with secondary containment and clean up materials. The NSLS maintains spill control kits around the facility for everyone’s use, but Users whose experiments involve work with liquid reagents should come prepared with their own materials.
No storage containers that exceed 1 liter in volume are allowed at the NSLS without approval from the NSLS Safety Officer. Larger volume containers must be plastic or glass fitted with a plastic protective sleeve.
