Training Programs

Enhance Your research by learning more about cryo-electron microscopy

As a state-of-the-art center for life science imaging using cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) located at Brookhaven National Laboratory, LBMS offers opportunities for training and coaching by experts. The courses and workshops cover a wide range of levels of expertise, from beginners to experienced researchers in cryo-EM fields. These programs cover topics such as the fundamentals of and advancement in cryo-EM as well as the state-of-the-art tools available at the LBMS.

Two standing course series are offered:

Annual Cryo-EM Course

This annual course aims to introduce researchers to the power of cryo-EMs for their research. This course includes image formation and three-dimensional reconstruction theories, sample preparation techniques, electron microscopes and direct electron detection cameras, automated data collection methods, data analysis, and demonstrations for sample preparation, and data collection and analysis. It covers all the major branches in cryo-EM: single particle analysis (SPA), cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET), microcrystal electron diffraction (MicroED).

Quarterly Cryo-EM Workshop

Our quarterly workshop aims to familiarize users with the practical aspects of cryo-EM techniques including but not limited to sample preparation, data collection, data processing, and model building.
