Complete List of Brookhaven Lab Genesis Mission Phase II Projects
October 8, 2026
The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Brookhaven National Laboratory will lead a Genesis Mission Phase II project, called “Foundation Models for the Electric Grid: From Proof of Concept to Real-world Impacts.” The award to Brookhaven and its collaborators will support three years of research to develop a next-generation grid foundation model (GridFM), a system that can rapidly simulate scenarios for adding new loads to the electric grid. With the goal of building a model that can simulate 1 billion scenarios in 24 hours, the project aims to significantly accelerate grid expansion planning with optimal accuracy, affordability, and efficiency in operations. In addition leading to this project, Brookhaven Lab will contribute to three Phase II projects led by other National Laboratoties and universities. Below is a complete list of these four Phase II projects, their lead institutions, and their principal investigators. Brookhaven Lab is also leading seven Phase I projects and contributing to an additional 30.
