What to Do When You Arrive


Check In

Check in at the GUV Center — If you're a new user or have a new extension, check in at the Brookhaven Guest, User, and Visitor (GUV) Center, Building 400 (see map). New users, users with expired appointments/badges, and users that have a change in visa status check in at the GUV Center to have your BNL appointment activated and receive a current BNL photo ID badge, or have your visa status updated in BNL’s system.

Check In at the User Admin Office — Check in at the User Administration Office located in NSLS-II Laboratory Office Building (LOB) 3, Bldg. 743 (see map, PDF), to receive a TLD and an access card that is encoded to permit access to the NSLS-II experimental floor. If you are arriving after hours (after 5 p.m. and before 8:30 a.m.), you should call the control room from the lobby of your beamline’s Laboaratory Office Bldg. and they will assist you.

Complete Beamline-specific Training

Before an experiment can begin, beamline-specific user training requirements must be fulfilled. The Lead Beamline Scientist (or designee) will provide users the appropriate beamline-specific training that includes the limitations and authorizations for users during their visit. The Lead Beamline Scientist (or designee) and Floor Coordinators will provide oversight during the experiment to ensure user compliance with NSLS-II requirements.


Perform Experiment

Having completed all previous steps, work may begin.
