Collaboration Meeting on "Simulation and Modeling for SR Sources and X-Ray Optics"


The Collaboration Meeting was held between the European and US teams actively working in the area of development of scientific software for simulating Synchrotron Radiation (SR) emission and propagation through X-ray optical elements of beamlines at Light Source facilities, in particular storage ring sources of 3rd generation with small and ultra-small electron beam emittance. The attendees of the Meeting represented the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) – Manuel Sanchez del Rio and Mark Glass; ELETTRA – Luca Rebuffi; Advanced Photon Source at Argonne National Laboratory (APS at ANL) – Ruben Reininger and Xianbo Shi; RadiaSoft LLC – David Bruhwiler and Rob Nagler; and National Synchrotron Light Source II at Brookhaven National Laboratory (NSLS-II at BNL) – Lutz Wiegart and Oleg Chubar. The Meeting was also attended by scientific staff of NSLS-II and partner organizations. 

The main goals of the Meeting were to share information about recent accomplishments and coordinate
next efforts between leading teams in Europe and in US in the area of development of software for simulating SR Sources and X-Ray Optics – to facilitate design and optimization of new Light Sources and user beamlines, as well as to address simulation of user experiments and eventually data processing. Taking into account the limited available resources in the area of development of scientific software for Light Source facilities, it is important to avoid unnecessary duplication of efforts/tasks and ensure good coordination between different on-going projects that can greatly accelerate the general progress.  Presentations made at the meeting, and the discussions on the next development plans of each of the participating teams met these goals.
