Operations Update

Please join me in welcoming Kim McGuire to our Center and congratulating her as she takes on the role of Operations Manager beginning Monday, August 2 when I transition to a part time position at Brookhaven after 41 years of service at the Lab. Kim joined the Brookhaven Lab C2QA organization on June 1, and we have been working on the transition since then. Kim holds a BS in Organizational Management with an MBA and is working toward an MS in Systems Engineering. She has deep experience in senior level management, planning, program development, project management, business management, and the full range of operations functions. Her background and experience have already proven to be very valuable assets to C2QA—and she is just beginning.

It has been an honor and a privilege for me to have been involved with C2QA since the earliest days of the development of the proposal, through the Orals, and to have served in the Operations Manager role since we received the award of the Center. With the excellent C2QA Operations Team and other Brookhaven Lab support staff we have put in place 19 of the 20 collaborator subcontracts, developed and deployed business and operations processes and documented them in policies and procedures, established the project management system, set up the financial and accounting framework, and completed countless other start-up tasks. We have completed our first DOE Management Review and several DOE reports. As I step down, the process of allocating Year-2 funds to all our collaborators is in progress. My sense is that the Center is well on its way.

It has been my pleasure to work with Jim Misewich, Brookhaven Lab’s Associate Lab Director for C2QA, our Director Steve Girvin, our Deputy Director Andrew Houck, the Thrust Leaders, Steering Committee members and many others. I wish you all success beyond your expectations as you pursue the challenging research and development mission objectives of the Center, which are so vital to our nation’s future.
