Short- and Long-Term Bike Rentals

For those without a vehicle, traveling across the expansive Lab site can be challenging. To make it easier, there are two bike-loan programs availabe to help get you where you need to go.

This program is intended for employees and visitors staying on-site who are requesting a long term bike rental. This program is for long-term rentals only and availability is limited, especially during peak usage in the summer.

To reserve a long-term bicycle rental, please fill out the form below. Once completed, Jack Cunningham will discuss bike availability and pick-up arrangements with you.

BNL Bike Loan Safety Regulations

  • You must wear a helmet whenever riding a bicycle on Laboratory grounds or on public roads. If you don't have your own helmet, one can be purchased with a pick ticket specifying item #K70300. You will need an account number and the approval of your departmental Safety Coordinator. If you're not familiar with pick tickets, speak to your department's administrative assistant.
  • While in your posession, you must protect the bicycle and its associated combination lock and chain from inclement weather and theft to the best of your ability.
  • In the event of an accident, theft, or loss of this bicycle or any associated equipment, you must immeidately notify Laboratory Police at Ext. 2238 and file a loss report.
  • Make arrangements to return the bicycle to the Gym Office by calling Ext. 3147 prior to your planned departure from the Laboratory.

Lab-owned bicycles are provided for your sole benefit. By accepting the Loan Agreement you waive any claim against BNL arising out of the use of this bicycle, including any claim for personal injury or property damage. You will indemnify BNL and hold it harmless for any claims asserted by third parties against BNL arising from use of the bicycle.

The bike is assigned to you alone. Do not allow anyone to borrow it; you are the responsible party.

BNL Bike Share gives authorized riders free, short-term access to bikes to use on the Lab site.

How to Use BNL Bike Share

  1. Download the Koloni app   Apple Store | Google Play Store – Create your account and follow the in-app instructions.
  2. Find a bike at one of the following bike rack locations
  3. Unlock the bike – Use the app to scan the QR code on the bike or enter the bike ID number.
  4. Ride safely – Helmets are mandatory on site. No helmet, no ride. Helmets are available for sale at the BERA Store.
  5. Where can I ride the bike? – Paved roads only. Do not ride on sidewalks and do not take the bikes onto the firebreak around the Lab site – these are not “mountain” bikes.
  6. Return the bike to one of the bike rack locations – When you are done, return the bike to a bike rack location and lock it properly. Make sure the app shows that your ride has fully ended before you walk away.

This is a bike share program. Returning bikes to the hubs is what keeps it running smoothly and available for everyone. When a bike is not returned properly, it affects the whole community.

Pausing your ride

You may pause your ride for a short stop — for example, while running into the Post Office, stopping at a building, or attending the next Healthfest event.

A paused ride is still your active ride. It has not ended until the bike is returned to an official BNL Cube hub and the app confirms the trip is complete.

Pausing is for short same-day stops only.
You may not pause a ride overnight or keep a bike for extended personal use.

Program rules

  • Free to use
  • Helmets are mandatory
  • Bikes must be returned to an official BNL Cube hub
  • Riders who receive three penalties will be suspended from the program
