About INCREASE

The Interdisciplinary Consortium for Research and Educational Access in Science and Engineering (INCREASE) is an organization to promote research in Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and other minority-serving institutions (MSIs), involving utilization of national user facilities - in particular, the National Synchrotron Light Source (NSLS) at Brookhaven National Laboratory - as well as to facilitate education and research training, especially for members of minority groups: African-Americans, Hispanics, and women.

About InSynC

The InSynC program enables high school teachers and students to gain remote access to experimenting with synchrotron beamtime through a competitive, peer-reviewed proposal process. The program trains both teachers and students to formulate a hypothesis-driven scientific problem and learn the skills of writing a competitive beamtime proposal.

Purpose and Scope

The joint InSynC-INCREASE Workshop will consist of introductory lectures on synchrotron science, techniques, and operations. Hands-on experimental activities will be offered to participants using a variety of beamlines. Additionally, there will be a writing tutorial focused on the development of competitive beamtime proposals for independent research at the NSLS.

Intended Audience

The workshop is open to all MSI tenured or tenure-track faculty and Long Island high school teachers.
