Start your registration

Coming to Brookhaven Lab? The first step for all guests, facility users, and visitors planning to come to the Laboratory is to register through our Guest Information System.

Before You Arrive

Researchers must complete a series of registrations prior to arrival. Some visitors may also need to submit a User Agreement, reserve housing, open project accounts, and arrange to have materials shipped to the Lab.

When You Arrive

All guests, users, and visitors must check-in at the Guest, User, Visitor Center, Building 400E, prior to visiting their department and/or user facility. Check-in hours are 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Guests should make every attempt to arrive during these hours.

Preparing to Leave

There is a formal checkout procedure for all individuals working at Brookhaven. Chemicals, equipment, and other materials must be accounted for prior to your departure.

Training

You are required to complete training associated with work that you will be performing, hazards that you may encounter, and the areas you will need to access. Work can only start once your training is complete.

Agreements

For guests and users conducting research, an agreement must be in place before work begins. The type of agreement needed depends on the work being conducted, where the work is being done, and who is sponsoring the research.

ID Requirements

U.S. citizens age 16 and over must bring photo identification that has been issued by the federal government, or by your state government. Non-U.S. citizens have additional requirements.

About the Guest, User & Visitor Center

The Guest, User & Visitor Center (GUV Center) welcomes researchers from universities, government laboratories, and industry from within the U.S. and abroad who are interested in visiting Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) or performing experiments at one of their scientific user facilities. The GUV Center is a central contact point for services for all guest, users, and visitors and is staffed with employees who know BNL well and can assist you in answering any questions you may have or directing you to individuals who can.
