The Condensed Matter Theory Group conducts basic research over a wide swath of theoretical physics, ranging from strongly correlated electrons to first-principles electronic structure theory. We coordinate our research efforts closely with experimental efforts both within the CMPMS Department as well as the Center for Functional Nanomaterials and National Synchrotron Light Source II. Our main topics of research are:

- Theory of high-temperature superconductivity
- Low-dimensional transport in nanostructures and mesoscopic systems
- Low-dimensional magnetism
- Non-equilibrium physics in strongly correlated systems
- Wannier function based approaches to first-principles computations
- Tensor network based methods (DMRG, NRG, PEPS, etc.)
