General Lab Information

We combine neutron scattering techniques, exploratory synthesis, and crystal growth to address key questions associated with strong interactions in quantum materials. Specific topics of current interest include:

  • High-temperature superconductivity and intertwined orders
  • Van der Waals magnetic compounds
  • Topological semimetals
  • Emergence of local moments in compounds such as FeP2, FeSb2

A common theme is the interaction of charge carriers with local-moment antiferromagnetism.

Our research interests are pursued in close collaboration with the other groups in CMPMSD. For neutron scattering measurements, we are regular users of the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) and the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR) at Oak Ridge National Lab, and the NIST Center for Neutron Research. Crystals for these experiments are generally grown in our laboratories in the Interdisciplinary Science Building at Brookhaven.
