ePIC (Electron-Proton/Ion Collider) Group

The BNL ePIC (Electron-Proton/Ion Collider) Group brings together scientists, postdoctoral researchers, engineers, and technical staff working to advance the science of the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) and help realize the ePIC experiment. Our group combines broad expertise in QCD physics, detector development, data acquisition, simulation and reconstruction, and data analysis.

Our activities are guided by three primary missions:

  • Advance the EIC scientific program by developing the physics opportunities, measurements, and analysis capabilities that will enable us to fully realize the scientific potential of the EIC.
  • Work collaboratively and effectively with the EIC Project and the ePIC Collaboration to help realize the ePIC detector, contributing our scientific, technical, and organizational expertise to detector development, construction, integration, commissioning, and preparation for physics.
  • Fully leverage our group's expertise while developing the capabilities and skills needed to support ePIC, strengthening our expertise across physics, detector technologies, data acquisition, and data analysis, while preparing the next generation of scientists to take on leading roles in the EIC era.

In parallel with our EIC and ePIC activities, we continue to contribute to a broad program of QCD research through other major experiments, including PHENIX, sPHENIX, STAR, ATLAS, and others. These activities strengthen the scientific and technical expertise of our group, provide important connections between current and future QCD programs, and help build the foundation for the physics program at the EIC.
