Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Authorized Personnel

Responsible Employee

Have the training and/or experience to exercise group and system-level judgments, and are authorized to lockout and tagout any equipment for which they have division’s approval. If coordinated multiple lock and tags are applied by more than one employee, those of the "responsible employee" must be the first to be applied and the last to be removed.

Knowledgeable Employee

Have the training and/or experience in the safety related technical aspects of the equipment and are authorized to conduct limited lockout and tagging. They cannot install "group or operations locks and/or tags". However, they are authorized to attach additional locks and tags in "operations lock" or “group lock” situations provided that their lock and tag is not the first applied or the last one to be removed.
