Office 365: Desktop Installation

Note: ITD has a mandate to discontinue IMAP service for Office 365 by April 2020. Please contact the Helpdesk it you have any questions or concerns.

Windows users have two optional methods to manage their email, which are shown below.


Microsoft Office 365 Portal

Users can access all of the Office 365 Portal applications without installing any software by logging into the Office 365 Web Portal where they are then able to use the applications directly in your web browser.

Web Portal Instructions
  1. Browse to the Microsoft Office Portal
  2. Sign in with your BNL email address
  3. When you click next, you will be redirected to BNL's single sign-on page.
    This redirection is normal and is not a phishing attempt.
  4. Log in with your BNL domain credentials (username and password)
Install Office 365 on your PC

Mac users have three optional methods to manage their email, which are shown below.


Apple Mail

Apple Mail users can use the latest version of the software (Mail.app) provided with Mac OS Mojave or later which supports Exchange accounts with modern authentication.

Install Office on your Mac

Owl for Exchange

Owl for Exchange, is a Thunderbird add-on (plugin) software that allows the Mozilla Thunderbird email client (version 60.5 or newer) to connect to some Microsoft Exchange servers and receive and send emails via such servers. Note, ITD has secured licenses for this plugin and it will be provided to you at no cost.

How to Install Owl for Exchange
  • Start Thunderbird 60.5 or newer.logo
  • Open Thunderbird menu (hamburger).
  • Add-ons > Add-ons.
  • Select "Extensions" on left
  • Search for "Owl" using the "Find more extensions" search bar.
  • Look for "Owl for Exchange," and click "Add to Thunderbird."
  • Click "Add" to give Owl permission. Click "OK" and close Add-ons tab.
  • Click "Preferences" for Owl for Exchange.
  • Under "Mail account management," Add new account manually...
  • Complete new exchange account form
    • name, email address, username, password
    • Protocol: Outlook Web Access
    • Login method: Detect automatically
    • Webmail page: https://outlook.office.com/mail
  • Click "Create account."
  • If you do not see your license information, look for an "Update License" button to update the license. Then close the "Add-ons Manager" tab.

Unfortunately, there are no native apps available for Linux. However, Linux users have two optional methods to manage their email, which are shown below.
