Standard Microsoft 365 Installations for Most Employees

All new PCs and Macs that are set up by ITD staff come pre-loaded with the Microsoft 365 Suite, including Microsoft Teams

Employees may choose to install the Microsoft 365 applications on their Brookhaven Lab mobile phones or tablets as well as on their personally-owned devices. ITD permits "Bring Your Own Device" (BYOD), so long as they are secure with up to date operating systems and patches. The Lab's Microsoft 365 licensing allows for installations on five PCs or Macs, five mobile phones and five tablets, concurrently. If you need DUO for the installation please review the DUO section.

Teams and Microsoft 365 are part of the collection of applications available to all Brookhaven Lab users on the Ivanti/LANDesk Portal Manager. Please contact ITD at itdhelp@bnl.gov, Ext 5522, or (631) 344-5522 for help installing Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Teams.

A Note on Secure Access and Two-Factor Authentication Using DUO

To access many protected resources and applications at the Lab, including the Microsoft 365 products, you must use the DUO Security two-factor authentication system to confirm your identity. If you have not yet set up DUO on your computer and mobile phone, please visit the Lab's DUO resource page. Then return to this web page to install the Microsoft 365 products.

Access Microsoft 365 Applications on the Web

The Microsoft 365 applications can also be used on a web browser with an active internet connection. In addition to the standard suite of Office applications, the applications on the web include such others as Stream, Delve, SharePoint Online, and additional applications that are being added all the time.

Launch the web-based Office applications on the portal.

How Apple and Linux Users Can Read Their Lab Email

Configuring Apple Mail on the Mac to read your Lab email: You can use the latest version of the Mail.app provided with MacOS to connect to your Brookhaven email. ITD strongly recommends you use Microsoft Outlook to read email, and maintain your calendar and contacts. Office for Mac is provided at no cost to the employee or department as part of the Lab's Microsoft 365 subscription.

For Linux Users: There are no native apps available for Linux. However, Linux users have two optional methods to manage their email.

Federation with Other Organizations

ITD has set up Federation with some of the other DOE laboratories and agencies. Brookhaven Lab users are now able to invite users from outside our organization into our Teams channels using Guest Access. See how...

Get the Most out of Microsoft Teams

Novice-to-Expert Office Applications Training with QuickHelp

ITD's online learning tool, “QuickHelp,” can help you get the most out of the Microsoft 365 applications. A personal QuickHelp curriculum has been set up for each employee. Visit www.quickhelp.com/bnl to get started. Note, you will be prompted to enter your Brookhaven Lab network credentials (username and password) and use your Duo two-factor authentication the first time you sign on to QuickHelp (and periodically if significant time passes between log ins).
