What to do when you arrive
1Check In
All new NSLS-II users and returning users with expired appointments or access cards must arrive at BNL Monday through Friday (and not a holiday) between 7:30 AM and 3:30 PM and check in at the Guest, User, and Visitor (GUV) Center in Building 400 (see map). At the GUV center, you can pick up your user badge and your access card to the NSLS-II experimental floor. The Housing Office, ATM, and Micro Food Mart are located in the same building. Please note that the badging office closes promptly at 4 p.m.
Important: Don't forget to bring the required identification with you. Please refer to the GUV Center website for a list of items you must bring.
For users that must arrive after hours, please email the NSLS-II User Office at least 1 week in advance to make arrangements. Failure to do so may result in denied access to BNL or a delay in your experiments.
2Complete Beamline-specific Training
Before an experiment can begin, beamline-specific user training requirements must be fulfilled. The Lead Beamline Scientist (or designee) will provide users the appropriate beamline-specific training that includes the limitations and authorizations for users during their visit. The Lead Beamline Scientist (or designee) and Floor Coordinators will provide oversight during the experiment to ensure user compliance with NSLS-II requirements.
3Perform Experiment
Having completed all previous steps, work may begin.
