AI-Accelerated Nanoscience
Leveraging frontier AI to enable discovery
Artificial intelligence (AI) methods are advancing rapidly, changing the way intellectual work is done. We are investigating how best to integrate frontier advances in language models and agentic AI into science workflows. This includes developing automated synthesis and measurement platforms, deploying autonomous experimentation methods, and integrating AI assistants and agents into science workflows. Our work paves the way towards empowering human scientists to tackle more complex research challenges.
Associated Group Facilities

Synthesis and Characterization Facility
The Materials Synthesis and Characterization Facility includes laboratories for producing nanostructured materials and characterizing their basic structural, chemical and optical properties. The facility also supports infrastructure and expertise in solution-based processing of organic thin films, including tools for spin-casting, thermal processing, and UV/ozone treatment.

Quantum Material Press
QPress is a unique automated facility for the study of heterostructure materials. Made by stacking different two-dimensional materials, heterostructures have a host of exciting applications for quantum information science—an emerging field with the potential to revolutionize computation, communication, and sensing. QPress is a first-of-its-kind experimental tool enabling automated synthesis of layered heterostructure materials useful to research in quantum information science.
