Binary Filter

The binary filter is a variable thickness degrader made of high-density polyethylene (ρ=0.969±0.0007gr/cm3) can be used to slow down or stop the beam particles. The thinnest sheet is 0.25mm thick, the next is 0.5mm, followed by 1.00mm and so on, up to 128mm, so that one can dial in any thickness from 0 to 255.75mm, in 0.25mm steps. The sheets are inserted remotely from the dosimetry console. There are four additional slabs of HDPE that can be used to extend the range of the binary filters when needed. The total thickness of the additional material is 20.831cm.
